“Alaska itself is an unusual state.” — Fareed Zakaria
Inside Passage
The Inside Passage, is a stretch of protected ocean approx. 1,500 km long, that runs from Puget Sound in Washington State, USA, along the British Columbia, Canada coastline, to Skagway, Alaska, USA.
We'll board our ship in Vancouver, BC and cruise The Inside Passage to Anchorage, AK, making stops at Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway.
Along the way are many fjords including Tracy Arm fjord, Misty Fjord and Hubbard Glacier. A fjord is a long, deep, narrow body of water that reaches far inland.
Wildlife includes brown and black bears, mountain goats, wolves and many smaller furbearing animals. Harbor seals rear their young on ice floating in the fjords, and whales and sea lions are often seen in the water. Bald eagles and shorebirds are common near the coastline.
On our way to Denali National Park we'll make a couple of stops. First stop Mount Alyeska, 30 miles outside of Anchorage, to hike and see the incredible views from the mountain. On to Talkeetna, a frontier town, the inspiration for the TV show “Northern Exposure." While in Talkeetna we will make a plane ride landing on a glacier and a jet boat wilderness tour. We will then be off to Denali on the Alaskan Rail Dome train and stay at the Grande Denali Lodge. We travel into the park for a Tundra Wilderness Tour where in addition to wildlife we get to see Mt. McKinley. Then it’s off to Fairbanks on a scenic highway where we will fly back home.
